CERN has agreements with several publishers. Those agreements are detailed below. Access the CERN Author Guide

American Chemical Society (ACS)

  • If the Corresponding author is a CERN Author and the article is submitted in a journal included in this agreement, the article will be automatically detected by ACS and published open access with the license CC-BY.
  • Please contact @email before the submission if the corresponding author is not a CERN-affiliated author.

American Institute of Physics (AIP)

  • If the Corresponding author is a CERN Author and the article is submitted in a journal included in this agreement, the article will be automatically detected by AIP and published open access with the license CC-BY.
  • Please contact @email before the submission in the following cases: 
    • If the corresponding author is not a CERN-affiliated author
    • If you plan to publish in an AIP journal not covered by this agreement 

American Physical Society (APS)

  • If the Corresponding author is a CERN Author or if the article is submitted by a CERN collaboration and the article is submitted in a journal included in this agreement, the article will be automatically detected by APS and published open access with the license CC-BY
  • Read the agreement
  • Please contact @email before the submission in the following cases: 
    • If the corresponding author is not a CERN-affiliated author
    • If the article is published by a CERN collaboration with no CERN-affiliated author
    • If you plan to publish in an APS journal not covered by this agreement 

Association for Computing Machinery (ACM)

  • If the Corresponding author is a CERN Author and the article is submitted in a journal included in this agreement, the article will be automatically detected by ACM and published open access with the license CC: CC-BY preference, but also exceptions are allowed.
  • Please contact @email before the submission if the corresponding author is not a CERN-affiliated author.

Elsevier

Frontiers

  • Please contact @email in advance of the submission to check the eligibility of the article and to start the administrative procedure for the payment.
  • If your article is eligible, please make sure also that ‘European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN)’ is selected as institutional payer in the invoice section when submitting your article to Frontiers. Frontiers will then verify the eligibility with CERN and, if confirmed, the APC (minus the discount) will be paid by CERN upon acceptance.

IEEE

  • If the Corresponding author or any co-author has a CERN affiliation, the article will be detected by IEEE, and you will be offered with the Open Access option. (See the IEEE author Journey)
    • Select the Open Access option
    • Choose the licence CC-BY-4.0

  • Please contact @email in advance of the submission if the corresponding author is not CERN affiliated or in case of any doubt.

Most relevant titles:

IOP

  • If the Corresponding author is a CERN Author or if the article is submitted by a CERN collaboration and the article is submitted in a journal included in this agreement, the article will be automatically detected by IOP and published open access with the license CC-BY
  • For the Journal of Instrumentation only, the articles with no CERN-affiliated corresponding authors but CERN authors in the author list, the article will be automatically published in Open Access.
  • Please contact @email before the submission in the following cases: 
    • If the corresponding author is not a CERN-affiliated author
    • If the article is published by a CERN collaboration with no CERN-affiliated author

MDPI

  • Please contact @email in advance of the submission to check the eligibility of the article and to start the administrative procedure for the payment.
  • CERN is member of the MDPI Institutional Open Access Program, and benefits from a 20% discount on the standard APC.
  • After the submission, MDPI will verify the eligibility with CERN and, if confirmed, the APC (minus the discount) will be paid by CERN upon acceptance.
  • Please follow the submission guidelines.

Most relevant titles:

Nature Research Journals (Springer Nature)

  • At acceptance, if the Corresponding author is a CERN Author and the article is submitted in a journal included in this agreement, the article will be automatically detected by Nature and published open access with the license CC-BY.
  • Note: the number of articles included in this agreement is limited. 
  • For articles that won't be covered under the agreement, the authors have to identify another source of funding. 
  • Please contact @email before the submission.

Scientific.net

  • If the Corresponding author is a CERN Author, the article will be automatically detected by Scientific.net and published open access. 

SciPost

  • SciPost publishes a number of journals without any fee for the reader or for the author.
  • Please follow the submission guidelines.

Springer

  • If the Corresponding author is a CERN Author, and the article is submitted in a journal included in this agreementt the article will be automatically detected by Springer and published open access. (See the Springer Author Journey)

World Scientific

  • For the following journals, if the Corresponding author is a CERN Author, the article will be automatically detected by World Scientific and published open access.

    • The Physics educators
